Indeed Allah raises a people through this kalaam(The Quran) and he lowers others by it

Imam An Nawawi quotes the following ahadeeth:

From Abu Musa al Ashari Radiallahu Anhu who said, the Prophet SalAllahu Alayhi wasalaam, said

“”The example of a believer who recites the Qur’an and acts on it, like a citron[citrus fruit] which tastes nice and smells nice. And the example of a believer who does not recite the Qur’an but acts on it, is like a date which tastes good but has no smell. And the example of a hypocrite who recites the Qur’an is like a Raihana (sweet basil) which smells good but tastes bitter And the example of a hypocrite who does not recite the Quran is like a colocynth[Bitter apple] which tastes bitter and has a bad smell.”[Agreed upon]

Sahih al-Bukhari 7560

From Umar ibnul Khattab RadiAllahu Anhu, who said that the Prophet SalAllahu Alehi wasalaam said,

“Indeed Allah raises a people through this kalaam(The Quran) and he lowers others by it”[Recorded by Imam Muslim in his Sahih]

________________________________________

Through the Kalaam of Allah, the pagan Arabs were silenced and humbled until Allah’s messenger, SalAllahu Alehi wasalaam, had driven out the mushrikeen from the two holy sites and out of the Arabian peninsula completely. Those who thought themselves high and mighty, whom where arrogant towards the kalaam of Allah, were decimated and driven into the depths of shame.

Those who were lowly, and seen as nothing, through their submission to the kalaam of Allah, were raised in rank until even the slaves of the believers were made better than the mushrikeen.

So is it not time we recognize our need to busy ourselves with the book of Allah and the sunnah of the messenger? Through them, Allah raises the rank of the people and through them he humiliates them. If we find ourselves in hardship then let us reflect on how we are with the kalaam of Allah.
